Eccel Map Chapter 4

May 7, 2010

In chapter 4, i learned about the Washington explorers. The thing i will remember most is learning about the Lewis and Clark expedition. What i learned is that only 1 person died the whole expedition, which is considered a miracle. This was an important part of our state history for many reasons. 1 of them being that Lewis and Clark found the whole western part of the U.S.A, which i consider important because that is where I live now.

Excel Map Chapter 3

May 7, 2010

In chapter 3, I learned about the different traditions from the Plateau and Coastal Indians. I found out that the Coastal Indians favored cedar trees. They made canoes, clothes, houses and baskets out of cedar bark or wood. The Plateau indians used teepes for their houses instead of longhouses, which the Coastal indians used. This is important in our history because we might not have some of the canoes and houses we have now if it wasnt for the Indians finding out how to use it the “right way”.

Washington State History

April 19, 2010

In chapters 1-3, the things that I’ll remember most is the megaflood section and video, and about how Bretz first proposed the idea. That was really interesting to me. It is an important part of our history because if there really was a megaflood/ series of floods a long time ago, it will really desctibe the scablands we have no valid description for. I also will remember the sections in Washington. For example the Cascade Mountains or Puget Lowlands. Learning about that was interesting to me, but i don’t know why. Those are the things i will remember most in those chapters because they stood out to me the most.

Crusades Project

March 3, 2010

I think the best part of my project is the color and the layout of the text, because it makes it look really pretty.  I could’ve improved by making the 5th paragraph more detailed and make more sense, because I didn’t take as much time on that part as i would’ve liked to.  I really wouldn’t like to do it over again, but if i had to i would probably change everything, because my project didn’t turn out at all as I wanted it too.  That is probably because I wasn’t very focused the first day of working.  I liked the feedback thing because it helped a lot of people a lot, so we should continue to use that in the future.  I didn’t like the Diigo tool- highlighting useful information and putting it into the Diigo library.  I was absent the day we did most of that, so I ended up doing my project without using Diigo at all.  Overall, this wasn’t my favorite project but i made my way through it.

How to Survive in the Arabian Peninsula

December 16, 2009

There are 10 main tips to help you surviv and thrive in the Arabian Peninsula.  First, make sure you have baggy clothing. It will protect you from heat, flies and dust. Second, dont forget to make irrigation channels in the oases: it will help you grow crops.  Third, dams are always helpful in the coastal plains to keep some of the water under control.  Fourth, i recomend you find out how to build a terrace because it will come in handy while farming in the mountains.  Fifth, camels are a good thing to have while traveling in the desert.  They can go days without water and food, so you dont have to worry about feeding them.  Sixth, make sure you have herds that will meet all your needs, it will be more helpful than you realize.  Seventh,  trading knowledge is recommended in all environments, the Coastal Plains in particular.  Eighth,  i would advise you to travel with a group, or caravan.  You never know what your going to come across.  Ninth,  you probably should bring rain gear. I hear it rains a lot in the Coastal Plains and the Mountains.  Thats all you need to know to thrive in the Arabian Peninsula in the year 600.  G0od luck!

Letter to Parents

November 23, 2009

Dear Mom and Dad,
The first trimester of 7th grade has gone very well.  In science i have learned about the Grand Canyon and it’s rock layers, in math i learned about scatter plots and combining like terms, the rest was kind of a review to me.  In language arts i learned about generating yellows for a topic and writing really good paragraphs, and in social studies i learned about the bubonic plague, magna carta and just about everything else from the middle ages.  I have done very well so far this year, and what helps me do that is a lot of studying for tests and an organized eagle book.  This coming trimester, I will try for an even more organized eagle book and i will try to make time to redo assignments i bombed, because in trimester 1 i didn’t know we were allowed to do that for social studies. As of right now, i cant think of anything i have struggled with except some of the social studies tests, so i will study more this trimester to get better grades on those. Another thing i can do differently is to ask you guys for help on some of my homework i dont get, because in the past i have been a very independent person with homework and now i think it would be  a lot better if i went over some of it with you, and who knows? That might help bring some of my grades up even more.  Overall, i have had a great 1st trimester of 7th grade and am looking forward to another succesful one.
Love,
Maddie
